What is the Rochester Game Festival?

Our First Event, the 2017 Made In Rochester Game Festival, at the Irondequoit Library

The Rochester Game Festival first opened its doors in 2017 and it remains the area’s only dedicated game convention.

The festival’s organizers, with additional support from the Irondequoit Public Library, Rochester Institute of Technology’s MAGIC Center, and ROC Game Dev, are working to boost the profile of the game development scene here in Rochester. That all starts with showcasing the wide variety of video games and tabletop games created in the Rochester area (and beyond) at multiple events every year.

Our main event, the Rochester Game Festival, takes place at RIT in the Fall, while the Irondequoit Library hosts the Spring Mini Show in the Spring.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to host an in-person event in 2020, but we kicked off 2021 with the ROC Game Fest Online Show, our first-ever virtual program, and returned to in-person events with the (slightly-delayed) 2021 Rochester Game Festival in February 2022.

More than 5,000 people have attended Rochester Game Festival events over the years, and they’ve been able to try out the latest projects from more than 100 developers headquartered in New York State and the surrounding region. Visit the RGF Alumni page to learn more about all the video games and tabletop games we’ve hosted over the years.
