ROC Game Dev is an organization dedicated to fostering a community of game creators in Rochester, NY. Our mission is to provide a local platform for game creators at beginner, amateur, and professional levels to learn, share, and collaborate in all aspects of building games.

Play RoboDome at the ROC Game Dev table. It’s a twin-stick roguelike that drops players into the most popular sport around, a competition of professional Robo Battlers who must destroy robotic sentries and face off against each other in the arena.

New York’s Tech Valley is home to a video game development cluster, ranging from small, independent studios to internationally recognized names. 1UpState, a celebration of games and the people who make them, is a new expo for game developers in New York’s Tech Valley Region! Saturday, October 19, at the Albany Capital Center.

FIRST APPEARANCE AT ROC GAME FEST
AudioAssets@RIT is an online repository of music and sound effects for use in video games and media created by RIT students for RIT students. It aims to streamline collaborations between composers, sound designers, game developers, and filmmakers at RIT by enhancing collaboration across various disciplines. This web-based application features a user-friendly interface, strict audio quality standards, comprehensive metadata, searchable functionality, audio preview capabilities, and an automated usage approval system.

Additionally, it allows users to upload audio files with different visibility settings, search for and download available audio assets, and offers an enhanced administrative view for content moderation. Above all, AudioAssets@RIT strives to create a safe and convenient space for RIT students to share their creations with others, ensuring their works are shared in a way that protects their intellectual property.

From pre-production, to development, to modeling and texturing, Villa Maria College’s Game Design program immerses you into every phase of the game design process, molding you into a strategic and creative individual who is prepared to take your talent to the professional playing field. Faculty and students will share information about Buffalo’s only Game Design program! Learn more about our hands-on program that guides students as they learn to create all kinds of games from concept to completion.

Play Spirit Runner at the Villa Maria College table. This student-made game asks players to collect Soul Orbs in an attempt to bring a recently-deceased ghost back to life.

Exalt is a hack-and-slash action-adventure that combines 2D pixel-art visuals with 3D exploration and gameplay. Explore a world as a robot-mage, blinking around enemies and casting spells. Play in a wave-based arena game mode, or help test some unfinished prototypes of levels for the in-development campaign.

Bait and Tackle is a 2D boss-rush designed around fishing minigames while incorporating elements of platformers and collect-a-thons. Designed for players who spend too much time mastering fishing minigames, Bait and Tackle offers plenty of challenges and laughs for experienced and aspiring fishers alike. Grab your fishing rod, cast your line, and hoist yourself into the world of Bait and Tackle!

Catch exotic fish and fight comical sea-monsters as you chase after the one that got away! Enjoy calm fishing by the dockside, but beware – if a big enough bite is on your line, prepare to face off against a new deep-sea monstrosity! Use your fishing rod as a grappling hook and a sword as you travel to a variety of locations, reeling in and facing off against a roster of dangerous catches along the way…

Erenshor is a “simulated MMORPG” where players can experience classic MMORPG gameplay on their own terms, and in the company of an entirely simulated server population. The SimPlayers always “online” and ready to play when you are, and when you’re too busy with other things, they’ll always be there waiting for you.

Mathletix is a puzzle game that utilizes the basic principles of math, all set against gorgeous backgrounds and a relaxing, lofi soundtrack. Players must arrange numbers and operators into proper equations in the style of crossword puzzles.

Chronoweaver’s Loop is a small time-loop puzzle game where you play as Mune, a young apprentice mage who must relive the same two minutes trying to solve the puzzles of a crumbling tower in order to unlock the mystery of your dying mentor.

So to Speak is a puzzle game where you wander around a 2D simulation of Japan and encounter Japanese words in signs and conversations. You must connect them to nearby objects or text with the same meaning.

For example, you can drag a Japanese sign for “entrance” onto an actual building entrance located nearby or the English word “entrance” in the game’s description of the entrance. It has an educational purpose, but it’s also a puzzle game where you use context clues to decipher the meaning of words in a language you don’t know. It doesn’t assume any background in Japanese and you can enjoy it even if you don’t really care about learning Japanese… yet.

Are stories too coherent for your liking? Then have I got the game for you!

Growing up, our family would tell “and so” stories. One person would start telling a story until they said, “and so…”. At this point, the next person would pick up the story and continue it. StoryBot lets you tell one of these unpredictable stories in Discord!

That’s right – this game is experienced entirely in Discord! It’s a Discord bot that can be added to any server!

StoryBot will then choose random users who /join to take turns adding onto a shared story. The story gets bounced around from person to person as everyone adds their own unique touch to the story! People can continue the story, introduce a cameo, or just completely mess up the plot by introducing a multidimensional llama. It’s impossible to tell what will happen next with StoryBot!

What if ninjas fought in a trampoline park, but with paint? Ninjas on Trampolines is a two-to-four player platform fighter where players are ninjas that splatter their opponents on the battlefield. Use trampolines to fight for aerial superiority. Having the most paint on the battlefield will make you victorious, but be careful because your opponents can paint over what you have already. The person with the most paint at the end of a match is declared the winner.
